How to get to Hollywood Sign

The Hollywood sign in Los Angeles is the iconic landmark and it is every visitor’s dream to have a great picture of it. While there are many good spots around Los Angeles where the Hollywood sign is visible, there is one “official” spot where you can get amazing shots. This is in Lake Hollywood neighborhood just below the sign. Most of the web search engines will direct visitors, who search for Hollywood sign, to Griffith Park Observatory. This amazing place have some spectacular views of the Los Angeles and some descent views of Hollywood sign. But Lake Hollywood has the best, close and personal view of this historic landmark. Below are the instructions how to get to it.

In the google maps (or any map app) type Lake Hollywood Park and follow the direction. This is a great spot to park a car and have some good pictures as this is an official Hollywood sign view point. There is plenty of free parking on both sides of the street, and this is a great spot to start your “climb” towards the best view point in town. Street parking is allowed from 8am till 6pm, so after that time it is strictly enforced by parking “police”.

After spending few minutes taking selfies and some jumping pictures, follow this simple climb through Lake Hollywood. It takes 20-30min depending on your pace, but it is very easy walk via narrow streets. Be aware though that there is no official trail or sidewalk, and traffic is very busy as people actually do live here (so please be respectful).

Head up via Mulholland Drive, and make a RIGHT on Durand Drive, heading down, then make a LEFT on Heather Drive, with another LEFT on Ledgewood Drive, followed by sharp right on Rockcliff Drive heading up, then LEFT in Deronda Drive. At the intersection of Deronda Drive and Mulholland there will be a white wall with a metal gate (pic below), which is the official entrance to the Hollywood Sign vista point. There is area right in front of the wall where uber/lyft drivers usually drop passengers but reception here is very bad so you might not be able to get a ride back home.

Open the metal gate and head up towards the best seats in town. There are views of Hollywood sign and the views of downtown Los Angeles. that are breathtaking. This is absolutely a must visit place while in LA.

This is a fairly easy hike, but some people claim it is bit hard, especially on a very hot summer days. So bring water, sun screen and hats to protect yourself from scorching sun. There is also a trail towards the sign itself, via Mt Lee Drive, which will take you all the way behind the Hollywood sign from which you will get some amazing and breathtaking views of the City of Angeles.
