THE DESERT CITY

We visited Dubai in November 2017 and had four days to get to know this amazing city, one day of which we spent in Abu Dhabi. When you are here for the first time, and have only few days, you have to do the regular tourist things, highlights below. More logistical info and daily schedule can be found on our blog.

Burj Al Khalifa

This is obviously the most popular thing to see in Dubai. If you don't have time to go up, just being next to it is a fascinating experience because only then will you realize how tall this building is. It is really breathtaking to be near this modern day wonder of the world. But if you do have time, going to At the Top level (the 125th floor) is worth it. The best deal we found was at their official site, because you can choose the time of visit (as usual, the earlier the better).

Burj Al Arab

One of the things on our list was to take photos with the famous landmark hotel Burj Al Arab. The best places to take the photos, without staying at a fancy resort, is to go to the Umm Suqeim Beach, the earlier the better to avoid all the tourists. Finding parking was not an issue. The Beach offers a great view of the hotel and it is equally beautiful early in the morning for sunrise as it is for sunset.

Another place that offers a good view of Burj Al Arab is Madinat Jumeirah, a hotel resort but also a replica of an old Arabic town with souks, bazars, restaurants and cafes.

Desert Safari

Desert Safari is a must when visiting Dubai. You have the option to do a day tour and the afternoon/evening tour We opted for the evening one but in restrospect we should have done the day tour to have more time for desert photos and camel rides. The evening tour includes dune bashing, dinner under the stars, and a great show.

Dubai Marina

One of the must visited places in Dubai Marina, although least of my favorites. You can take a ferry ride which will give you a good look of the marina. It feels really nice to walk by the water, do some shopping and grab a bite to eat. We especially enjoyed grabbing a drink at Cargo Restaurant at Pier 7, which is the only restaurant at the Pier 7 building that opens up early enough for sunset. We loved this wonderful moment of relaxation.

Miracle Garden

This is one of the less known tourist spots, The Miracle Garden, but it provides a great opportunity for amazing photos. We rented the car so getting here was easy, although like with all other destinations in Dubai, always leave some time to get lost.
